The talented Ms. Hische

I've written about the fantastic Daily Drop Cap before, and recently (re)posted her article on how to draw a letter A, but I've dug a little bit deeper and there's even more to the multi-talented Jessica Hische. Her website is an absolute delight, as with all her work charmingly designed, with a beautifully retro 'crafted' feel to it. Designer, Illustrator and Typographer, her typeface Buttermilk is worth checking out.

The £1.92 MILLION iPhone

More money than sense? No… wait a LOT more money than sense? You'll want one of these fabulous… (or horribly tacky and vulgar, depending on your point of view), customised iPhones.
It's £1.92 Mil price tag places it within the reach of only the super rich… we're talking winning the Euro Millions roll-over jackpot here, not just lottery winners. 190 diamonds, 22 carat gold case (which will probably block any wireless reception), I could go on, but quite frankly I find this way over the top luxury a little obscene. If you've got that kind of cash sloshing about may I recommend Channel 4's brilliant Secret Millionaire – appear on this, spend what you would have done on the phone, you'll feel better about yourself than you will ever do pulling this flashy piece of trash out your pocket. Personal guarantee on that.

More about the iPhone 3S "Supreme" here.

Swine Flu Infographics

You know the old adage of a picture being worth a thousand words… well it holds true for a good infographic too.
London based author, writer and designer David McCandless has a passion for taking complicated data, and turning it into beautifully represented informative graphics.

His infographic website information is beautiful is a constantly informative and interesting read. And he's got a book out, but he's not too happy about it. Sorry to hear that David.

As an added bonus, and just to show there's nothing new under the sun, here's a remarkably modern looking infographic created by Florence Nightingale, created back in 1858. From Cool Infographics.

Pantone Postcards

Show your design credentials by sending a pantone postcard… Each Pantone number links to a theme… some obvious, (like a date), others are a little more cryptic. http://www.wearebuild.com/blog/2009/10/pantone-match/

They join an ever expanding list of Pantone based products, from coffee mugs to jewellery, peppermills to paint, spectacles to crisps!

Picture of the week

I love everything about this picture from The Boston Globe… the subject matter, the composition, and the colours… wow… the colours!

Recession Wine

Love the simplicity and concept behind the packaging of this "recession brand" wine by French designers Bold.

How to draw a capital A

Jessica Hische, the typographer and illustrator behind inspirational type resource dailydropcap (I blogged about them here: http://crocodilejock.posterous.com/daily-drop-cap-8 ), reveals that there's more than on way to skin a cat, or indeed, draw a letter A.

Deus Ex Machina

I've always been a scooter man, although I've owned a bike or two in my day, and I've retained a softspot for a well designed (often custom) motor-sickle.
This cafĂ© racer… (along with the"Bobber" my custom sub genre of choice), is a beautiful thing. From antipodean bike nuts Dues , it's the dingo's bollocks.

They've got a rather nice website too. Worth a look.

Robo Lamps

I've got a thing about robots… always have they're just cool. I love the retro ones… (see my Bennetts Robot Works post if you missed it), and I love these futuristic, friendly yet strangely disturbing ones from Croatian designer Robert Matysiak. Made from plumbing supplies, of all things.

More details on Robert'sMySpacepage.

Eco Ugly

This electric concept car from Puegot may be green, but boy is it ugly. And it looks a bit like one of those compact Dyson cleaners. Which aren't ugly, paradoxically. Apparently you can get four people in there… but who'd want to be seen in it?
